9th Annual Benefit for TESSA

WRAP UP ... The USPTA Intermountain women tennis professionals held a pro-am charity event on Sunday, February 10th to benefit TESSA. The Lynmar Racquet Club generously donated all seven courts in support of the fundraiser for the sixth year in a row.

USPTA pros that participated in the event were Kim Davis (USPTA National Women's Committee Chair and organizer of the event), Jeanette Paddock (Lynmar Director of Tennis), Diane Selke (USPTA Intermountain Women’s Liaison), Lori Kiser, Carol Stuller, Kellie Ford, Ann Slocomb, and Kim Gidley.

They were joined by the following other pros and top Colorado women’s tennis players: Susan Silva, Sarah Marr, Allison Cutter, Judy Hard, and USAF Academy cadets Meghan Kiser and Erlyn Rudico. The amateurs that participated were: Lourdes Diaz (TESSA Mental Health Counselor), Shawna Pfeif, Barb Delph, Patti Fey, Salome D’Silva, Lindy Conter, Suzanne Ridings, Leatha LeBlanc, Carol Lyn Lucas, Linda Catlin, Cindi Roy, Cindy Huffman, Patty Herlihy, and Carrie Gelston. Debbie Jones and Chris Pfeif volunteered their time to work the tournament desk and kept everything running smoothly.

After two hours of intense and fun round-robin play, the team of Carol Stuller and Salome D’Silva came out on top with a near perfect score. There was a tie for second place between the teams of Jeanette Paddock/Carrie Gelston (pictured l-r) and Judy Hard/Lindy Conter. Third place honors went to Kim Davis and Lourdes Diaz. The first place winners took home gift certificates donated by Pat Vert-Beville of Safe Touch Massage. Second place prizes were tennis bags donated by Diane Selke’s Valley Country Club Pro Shop and third place prizes were Davis Racquet Stringing gift certificates. All participants received beautiful handmade tote bags by Jewel Alexander and USPTA calculators courtesy of the USPTA Intermountain Women’s Committee.

There were many tremendous matches and points that highlighted an exciting afternoon. After the tennis play and tournament awards, there was a drawing for several door prizes at the social. Cadet Erlyn Rudico received a $100 gift certificate to Positive Strokes for Women tennis and wellness store (www.positivestrokes.com). The gift certificate was donated by Anne Slocomb, USPTA Pro and owner of Positive Stokes for Women. Kellie Ford received a $30 gift certificate at the Electrology Sudio donated by Carol Toothman. Toothman also donated a Lia Sophia jewelry piece and $10 gift certificate that was won by Barb Delph. USPTA T-shirts went to Cadet Meghan Kiser, Shawna Pfeif, and Jeanette Paddock. All participants and spectators enjoyed refreshments courtesy of the USPTA Intermountain Women’s Committee.

The event was a great success and raised over $1,300 for TESSA. This was the ninth annual tournament sponsored by the Intermountain USPTA Women Pros for the TESSA organization of Colorado Springs. -- Reported by Kim Davis

 
 

PREVIEW ... The USPTA Intermountain Women Tennis Professionals will hold its ninth annual Professional–Amateur charity event to benefit TESSA on Sunday, February 10th from 2:15 – 4:30pm.

All of the proceeds from the event will benefit TESSA, and the Lynmar Racquet Club has once again generously agreed to donate all of its indoor courts in support of the fundraiser.

USPTA women tennis professionals will pair with women amateur players (NTRP 2.5 – 4.0) to compete against each other in a fun and exciting round-robin doubles format. Check in and introductions for the tournament will begin at 2:15pm followed by two hours of continuous tennis play. Cost is a minimum $50 tax deductible donation to TESSA.

The first place winners will take home massage gift certificates donated by Pat Vert-Beville of Safe Touch Massage. Other prizes include tennis bags donated by Diane Selke’s Valley Country Club Pro Shop and Davis Racquet Stringing gift certificates. All participants will receive USPTA T-shirts donated by the USPTA Colorado District to commemorate the event.

After the tennis tournament, prizes will be awarded while participants and spectators for the event can enjoy refreshments courtesy of the USPTA Intermountain division.
