Court
Etiquette: Ball Return |
|
| Lynmar’s courts
are closer together than some other
facilities. Members have learned to
promptly return another court’s tennis balls
that come near their court. Play does not
need to stop to return a ball, unless it is
a safety hazard, but after a point is over,
it is courteous to return any balls near
your court that are not yours. When
returning another court’s tennis balls, it
is also courteous to do so when the court is
in between points. |
|
LEAGUE RULES
Fees & Billing:
You are billed one lump sum on your
February statement. Costs includes court
time, balls, awards, end-of-season party
and administrative fee. League fees vary
from $90 to $250, depending on the
number of weeks, court rate, and
singles/doubles options selected.
Schedule: Players will
be called with a start date for each league, and
then mailed a copy of the league rotation and rules.
-
Make up matches are highly discouraged.
-
Players not able to make regularly scheduled matches should obtain a substitute.
-
Due to an unforeseen emergency only
- if all parties agree to reschedule
the match, it must be played before
the last day of that league season.
If no score is turned in, then 0
points will be given to both
parties.
-
Due to the unforeseen emergency and
a make up match occurs, payment for
court and balls is the
responsibility of the participants.
-
The front desk will not give out tennis balls for league make-ups!
|
I. PARTICIPATION |
| |
a. You must be a Lynmar member to play or substitute.
b. Sign up for the league that
coincides with your NTRP level.
See section VI: Changing Levels.
c. If you do not have an NTRP rating you must be rated by a Lynmar pro.
d. Doubles teams must play
at the higher rated players
level and only if the partners
are no more than one level apart
(3.0 and 3.5 is o.k. but, 3.0
and 4.0 is not). At least
one partner must be the actual
level of the league.
e. When playing on a split-level
league both players must be in
one of the levels. |
|
|
II. SUBSTITUTES |
| |
a: It is your responsibility to find your own substitute of equal level. After your second no show you will be dropped from the league and replaced by the league coordinator at the original players expense.
b: The substitute must
play at the level of their most
current rating at any given
time. If the league
coordinator agrees that the sub
was of a higher level, the match
will be forfeited resulting in 0
points to the player or team.
c: The same substitute can
only be used twice during the
league (per person singles, per
team doubles). A 0 score
will be given if the same sub
plays a third time.
d: Two substitutes in a doubles
league: The match is scored as a regular match - minus the present points.
e: There must be at least
two play dates remaining in
league play for a sub to be
designated as permanent, this is
not retroactive. Permanent subs
may be required due to injury of
the regular player, etc.
f: When a player or team has a
bye week, they cannot sub in
their own league. |
|
|
Ill. LEAGUE MAKE UPS ...
Are highly discouraged.
|
|
IV. PLAY |
| |
a: If you are 5-9 minutes late for your match, you forfeit the warm-up. You forfeit the 1st set if you are 10-14 minutes late. The USTA 15-minute default rule is in effect.
b: Warm-up is limited to 10 minutes including serves. League matches are the best two out of three sets. Play is continuous with no breaks
between sets.
c: Everyone plays no ad scoring. On the last point receivers choose which service court they wish to receive from. In mixed doubles the man
serves to the man, and woman to woman on game point.
d: A 12-point tiebreaker
is played at 6 games all in any
set.
e: 10 minute time limit:
if you are still playing the
match 10 minutes before the time
limit, the game in progress at
that time is finished: |
| |
| |
1. If a team is ahead by two or more games, that team is declared the winner of that set.
2. If a team is ahead by only one game, play one more game and then a tiebreaker if that game ties the score.
3. If you split sets, play a twelve-point tiebreaker for the third set. |
|
| |
f: If the match is not completed during the allotted time, there are 2 options, which both parties must agree: |
| |
| |
Option 1: Split points:
Doubles - 4 points apiece if both players are present (3 if there is a sub)
Singles - 3 points apiece (2 if there is a sub) |
| |
Option 2: Reserve a court for 1/2 hour and finish the match where you left off. Players are responsible for the court cost. |
| |
If both parties cannot
agree then the points
are automatically
split. If the match is
not played, then the
points cannot be split. |
|
|
|
V. SCORING |
| |
a: Winners of all leagues are
determined by the person or team
who accumulates the most points
during the league season.
To be eligible to place 1st or
2nd in the league, a singles
player or doubles team in an 11
week league must play a minimum
of 8 times, or 9 times in a 14
week league. |
| |
b: If there is a tie for first
place at the completion of the
league play then the person or
team who won the most matches in
head to head competition is the
winner. If there is still
a tie, total sets won throughout
the season will be used. |
| |
c: At the end of the match the
winner keeps the balls, records
the results on a scorecard, and
turns the card into the front
desk. All players are
responsible for checking the
completed scorecard. |
|
|
VI. CHANGING LEVELS |
| |
a: A player who wins 1 or 2
leagues at a given level has the
option to move to the next
higher level for the next season
(immediately following) by
submitting a written request to
the league coordinator.
Requests will be approved or
denied by the appeals committee. |
| |
b: A player (s), who
participates in the next higher
level through the appeals
process, must finish higher than
last place in the next league
season. Otherwise, the
player (s) has to move back down
to their correct level for the
following season. |
| |
c: When a player moves up via
appeals, then that player must
play and/or sub at that higher
level. |
| |
d: If you are in last place in
2 consecutive leagues, you must
move down. |
